We are thrilled that the Staats Foundation is supporting our Ferret Shelters Directory project so generously! Thank you so much!
Our aims with this project are very aligned with your Circle of Compassion for Animals. We hope to better connect shelters to ensure no domestic ferret is euthanized for lack of space in a facility. When we attended the New England Federation of Humane Societies in April, we learned how useful the Directory will become. Several SPCAs in northern New Hampshire and Vermont said they could place any ferret sent to them, whereas in more populated areas like Connecticut, we often must juggle intakes to avoid overcrowding.
The Directory will quickly, we believe, become a source of extremely useful information. We have an e-news and survey capability which we are putting to good use. Our first survey was about Adoption Days in pet stores; their usefulness to shelters and their limitations. We next want to survey about adoption fees charged; while these are small bits of data, they will help shelters learn from each other and eventually help create Best Practices.
We have already given the Foundation and the Circle of Compassion credit on the front page of the website for your funding. (I’ve included a printout of the home page.) If for any reason, you don’t want it promoted, just let me know!
Again, please accept our sincere thanks for your grant. We will be providing you with periodic updates to our progress; should you have a specific follow up form, I would of course be happy to complete that also.
