California is First US State to Ban Puppy Mills From Selling to Pet Stores

CALIFORNIA IS THE FIRST STATE TO BAN PUPPY MILLS FROM SELLING TO PET STORES. The law, signed by Governor Jerry Brown, will take effect January 1, 2019. It covers puppy mills as well as cat and rabbit mills. Pet shops in California will have to work with animal shelters and rescues, not cruel mills, if they want to help their customers adopt dogs, cats, and rabbits. 42 Cats and Dogs Killed Each Day in New Jersey!

The 2016 Animal Intake and Disposition Summary shows that, of a total of 82,116 cats and dogs impounded in New Jersey in 2016, 52,707 were either redeemed or adopted and 15,340 were euthanized – an average of 42 per day. These numbers have dropped each year for the last several years. Those are all positive strides in the right direction!
