The numbers are dropping each year, but work continues to be needed, as an average of 58 cats and dogs are still being killed every day in New Jersey. The 2014 Animal Intake and Disposition Summary shows that, of a total of 80,346 cats and dogs impounded in New Jersey last year, 47,094 were either redeemed or adopted and 21, 076 were euthanized – an average of 58 per day.
